Sport and meditation
Sri Chinmoy really valued sport as a part of a balanced spiritual life. Our daily practice includes meditation and singing, but also sports and exercise - it helps keep our inner life fresh and dynamic. In addition we also put on quite a few events for the community.
2 Mile Community Races
The San Diego Sri Chinmoy Centre holds a free weekly 2-mile race every Saturday at 8pm in the summer for the local community (with the exception of a couple of weeks in mid-April and the second half of August).
The race begins and ends at the Sri Chinmoy Peace Garden on Adams Avenue. Call 619-282-4116 for more information.
Annual Swim Run in La Jolla
For the adventurous and well-trained, join our Swim & Run events. Our Swim-Run has a 1-mile swim, followed by a choice of 5k or 10k run (or you can choose to do either swimming and running)
The oldest vegetarian restaurant in San Diego
Started in 1986, Jyoti-Bihanga is situated on Adams Avenue, and offers delicious meals and lunches (Tip - try the Neatloaf), as well as a beautiful atmosphere to eat in. The cafe is owned and managed by members of the San Diego Sri Chinmoy Centre, and we try to bring Sri Chinmoy's meditative consciousness into the restaurant for visitors to enjoy.

Sri Chinmoy Peace Garden
Inaugurated in 2012 in Adams Avenue, this park aims to provide a quiet space in one of the busiest parts of San Diego, so that the public can find a moment’s peace in the middle of a busy world.
Sri Chinmoy in San Diego
Sri Chinmoy visited San Diego many times, including a Peace Concert he gave in 2005.
According to me, California is one of the very ancient spiritual states. Some of my Indian predecessors took shelter in California or gave light to California, so California, like New York, is a state that can take pride in Indian spirituality. California was spiritually awakened long before many other states. Long before I came, California was spiritually awakened.
