Free meditation classes, workshops & concerts

For over 50 years, the Sri Chinmoy Centre has offered meditation classes, workshops and other meditation events all over America.

At Sri Chinmoy’s personal request, all of our meditation events are always free of charge, as inner peace is a universal birthright meant for all.

Meditation is like going to the bottom of the sea, where everything is calm and tranquil. In its deepest depths, the sea is all silence. Thoughts cannot touch us, because our mind is all peace, all silence, all oneness.

About our classes

The courses vary depending on the city and instructor, but they all teach the same kind of meditation that Sri Chinmoy taught us - to go beyond the mind and focus on the 'heart-centre', the spiritual core of your being.

We offer large scale workshops followed by smaller group meditations for personalized one-on-one interaction with our instructors.

To learn more about our meditation classes, you can either visit one of the locations, or leave a enquiry on our contact form.

Q. Who is Sri Chinmoy?
A. Sri Chinmoy is our meditation teacher whom many of us have studied directly with for decades. He travelled the world over offering free public meditations, meditative concerts and sporting events to encourage the blending of inner and outer strength.

Sri Chinmoy lived in the New York area from 1964 to his passing in October 2007.

Q. Is this a religion?
A. No. Meditation is not a religion but a method for each individual from any background to dive deep within on a  journey of self-discovery. Everyone can learn to meditate. All spiritual traditions embody the essential principles of meditation.

Q. Why are the classes free?
A. We offer free meditation classes as a public service in the belief that peace is everyone's birthright and should be available to anyone. We too were once seeking peace and are grateful to those who taught us, and in turn offer those teaching to others, a way of 'paying it forward'. The only fee is your sincerity and regularity.

Q. What should I bring to the class?
A. Bring your sincere aspiration to start or enhance your own journey of self-discovery. On a practical level, it helps to shower and wear clean, loose clothing.

Q. What is the Sri Chinmoy Centre?
A. The Sri Chinmoy Centre is an international community from all backgrounds who follow the  teachings of Sri Chinmoy, a blend of meditation and community service. Through meditation we hope to gain inner peace. Through service to humanity we hope to contribute to world harmony, and together create a better world for all.

A. Our aim in offering meditation classes is to help you enhance your own practice as a community service. If you feel connected to the heart-center meditation method and would like to know more, we also offer free on-going classes where you can explore more meditation techniques as well as learning about Sri Chinmoy’s spiritual path.
