Free Songs of the Soul Concert

Two free Songs of the Soul Concerts were offered in Chicago featuring sitar virtuoso Adesh Widmer and celebrating the music of Indian spiritual Master Sri Chinmoy. Manhattan Meditation October Workshop

October 13 - 18, 2009. Manhattan. The final meditation workshop for 2009 was offered to several hundred New Yorkers seeking to discover peace within. Icelander Gangane Stefansson guided the seekers through 4 evenings of meditation, music and mantras in NYU Greenwich Village environs. Heart-Garden Race 09

Saturday, October 10th, 2009. At 9 am in the morning, the first two-mile Sri Chinmoy Heart-Garden Race was held in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. This event marked the beginning of two days of observances of Sri Chinmoy’s passing on October 11th, 2007.Sri Chinmoy’s students from Mongolia, Japan, New Zealand, Canada and many European countries were in Queens for Memorial observances and joined New York area students at the race start. Sri Chinmoy's Students Come to New York for August Celebrations

August 28th, 2009 Songs of the Soul Concert. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, New York University. Two back-to-back free evening concerts were offered to accomodate an overflow crowd of Manhattanites seeking music of the soul.  World's Largest Lollipop

August 27th, 2009, Jamaica, New York. New Yorker Ashrita Furman continued his tradition of setting a Guinness World Record in honour of Sri Chinmoy's birth anniversary on August 27th by creating the world's largest lollipop. As hundreds of on-lookers and passing cars clogged the streets to watch, the massive candy was lifted high into the air by crane-operators. It weighed in at over 3 tons and including the stick is 25 feet long. More...


400 Mile Cycling Ultra

August 10 - 15th, Montreal to New York. In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of Sri Chinmoy's participation in the 24 hour bike relay in Central Park, New York City, an international team of riders cycled from Montreal to New York. Over a period of five days, each member of the team rode the entire distance of 400 miles.  More…


3,100 Mile Race Finish

August 13th, Jamaica, New York. The world's longest certified race, the Self-Transcendence 3,100 Mile Race 2009, has finally ended, with eleven finishers as of August 13th. Suprabha Beckjord is the US participant in the 3100 Race, a resident of Washington, D.C and the only woman to have completed the 3100-miler, and the only thirteenth-time finisher, a legend in her own time.  More…



Manhattan Meditation Workshop August

August 7 - 9th, 2009. Manhattan. A three day meditation workshop was offered to 300 Manhattanites and surrounding tri-state natives with seekers coming in from New Jersey and Connecticut.  Led by Canadian Shishir Pauk, the capacity crowd was treated to 3 days of meditation techniques and entertaining ways of calming the all-powerful restless mind. Nature Beckons

August 9th, 2009.  (Contributed by Suchitra, founder of a Jamaica based women's hiking club). On Sunday our women’s hiking club took a trip to Jones Beach on Long Island, New York, close to the Sri Chinmoy Centre in Queens. Our little group left early that morning at 7:00am, braving reports of rain and thunderstorms. 130 Song Celebration

July 12th, 2009, Jamaica Queens. In honour of Sri Chinmoy's completion of 13,000 songs on July 13th, 2006 New York area students held a marathon singing session performing 1% of his total works, or 130 songs. More

Songs of the Soul Concert, Seattle, WA

April 20th, 2009, Benaroya Hall, Seattle, WA. Elegant and prestigious Benaroya Hall was the venu for the Seattle Songs of the Soul concert tour as musicians travelled from New York to the Pacific Northwest and Vancouver this April.  The capacity crowd listened in meditative silence to numerous ensemble groups and soloists performing unique interpretations of Sri Chinmoy's music. Balinese inaugurate lifesize statue of Sri Chinmoy

February 9th, 2009, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. The Agung Rai Museum of Art (ARMA) dedicated a statue of Sri Chinmoy on the musem grounds. The ceremony was led by the head of Balinese Hindus, Ida Pedanda Gede Detut Sebali Tianyar Arimbawa, and hosted by Mr. Agung Rai, founder of ARMA. Sri Chinmoy had visited the museum in 2004 during an exhibition of his paintings, and for many of his students on a 2009 mediation retreat, it felt like a real homecoming.

48,000 Candle Salute

August 27th, 2008, Jamaica. Queens. In tribute to Sri Chinmoy's birthday, who would have turned 77, a 200-strong team placed 48,523 candles on a colossal cake 52' x 17'.

The candles were lit in just two minutes with blow torches by another team of 80, and witnessed by 1,100 people attending traditional birthday festivities. A a new Guinness World Record was established in literally seconds in the process.  More
